TRINITY WOMEN’S MINISTRIES

Mission Statement
Christian Women working together, sharing the forgiveness and love of Jesus Christ to people everywhere, serving through our thoughts, words, prayers, and actions.

Trinity Lutheran's Women’s Ministry provides a variety of opportunities for service and fellowship. Each group within this Ministry creates a chance to strengthen the connections that women have with God, their church, and each other, as well as many opportunities for serving God and others. All women of Trinity, whether raising young children, retired, or somewhere in between, are welcome at any and all groups and activities in the Womens Ministry.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is a ministry of time and talent used to serve God in His house. It is a privilege to serve God by providing a reverent worship space that demonstrates love and respect for God and His people gathered in His name.

A few of the Altar Guild functions are:

  • displaying, cleaning, and storing paraments and linens appropriately,

  • caring for sacramental vessels and vestments,

  • preparing for, and cleaning up after Communion and worship services.

Trinity’s Altar Guild typically meets weekly on Saturday mornings.

Contact Becky Kleinschmidt for more information about Altar Guild - (309) 821-1272.

Baptismal Banners

For years now, a rotating group of volunteers have been working behind the scenes to bring an extra touch of joy and recognition to the children baptized at Trinity. Our Baptism banners are a special way to commemorate this sacrament. The first banner was given in 1998 and designed by Lisa Steinbeck. Each banner is handmade by carefully tracing, cutting, and assembling materials to create the banner with the child’s name and date of baptism. Banners are made as baptisms are scheduled.

Contact Diane Lehner if you’d like to help with the Baptismal Banner ministry (309) 838-3655.

Dorcas Circle

The Dorcas Circle meets weekly to sew and assemble many items to be donated to local charities as well as items to be sent overseas by Lutheran World Relief. Lutheran World Relief distributes these items to those less fortunate or in need in the countries which they serve.

  • Handmade quilts are sewn for local charities such as Salvation Army Safe Harbor Shelter, Crisis Nursery, Birthright of Bloomington, and Project Linus.

  • Quilts are handmade and supplies gathered to assemble school kits, baby care kits, personal care kits, and fabric kits to be distributed by Lutheran World Relief.

  • Christmas stockings are sewn for soldiers, Trinity family members in assisted living, Trinity’s Adopt-a-Family, as well as local charities.

  • Pet beds are sewn and assembled in partnership with Trinity’s Youth and given to local rescue groups.

  • Dorcas has had Mending Clinics, How to Sew clinics, and created a Sewing Club for Trinity Lutheran School.

The Dorcas Circle contact, Karen Nord, would love to talk with you about joining this ministry - (309) 530-8584.

Flower Ministry/Giving Gardeners

Please contact Della Jones, (309) 212-2431, if you have an interest in gardening or flower arranging and would enjoy serving in this ministry.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a ministry of Trinity that focuses on assisting members of Trinity, their families, and the community. Their main goal is to comfort those in need by relieving them of some of the challenges they face. We also provide an opportunity for Trinity members who want to serve others in the name of the Lord. Helping Hands partners with Hearts Ablaze for the annual Adopt-A-Family leading up to Christmas.

Please contact Pastor Bahn to find out more about the Helping Hands ministry.

Ladies Aid

The Ladies Aid was organized on September 15, 1892, by the Rev. Carl F. W. Sapper. At the time Ladies Aid was the only organization available to women within the church.

The purpose of the Ladies Aid has always been to engage in systematic church and charity work, especially to beautify the interior of the House of God, and to promote Christian fellowship among the women of the congregation. This is still our purpose today, but we are expanding our purpose to include being more intentional with prayer, initiating more outreach projects, and donating to worthy causes within the church and the community.

Each month we hear from a speaker from the community or a member of our Trinity family. Certain months we might go out for lunch and enjoy fellowship with our members. Occasionally, we may have a speaker from a community organization and take a collection of needed items for that organization.

Women of our congregation are encouraged to join us on the first Thursday of the month. We start with devotions, a short business meeting, and then usually have a program focused on outreach opportunities in the community or the church. Each month we have 1 or 2 hostesses that bring treats to the meeting.

You can contact Missy Bruehl (309) 531-4469 or Connie Foley (217) 370-1205 for more information about Ladies Aid.

LWML - Lutheran Women In Mission

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is an official auxiliary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Since 1942, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their lives in active mission ministries, and to support global ministries.

The MITES we collect are used to fund Mission Grants. Some of those grants will provide Student Aid for Church workers, help expand access to Camp CILCA facilities, and aid a Lutheran Church and School in Magamaga, Uganda, as well as other mission fields near and far.

Women of our congregation are invited to attend meetings at church on the second Thursdays in February, April, June, August, October, and December. We usually have a Bible study or a program focused on mission opportunities at our church or in our community.

We also have opportunities to meet with Lutheran Women in Mission from the other seven congregations in our Central Illinois District for Rallies, Retreats, and Conventions. The 39th Biennial LWML National Convention was held last month in Lexington, Kentucky.

Diana Behnke would enjoy talking to you about our LWML, contact her at (309) 200-4735.

Parish Nurses

Parish Nursing is a program that gives care of the body, mind, and spirit to the members of the Trinity family. We focus on health promotion, illness/injury prevention, chronic disease education, and helping members navigate the health system. The nurses are required to attend classes to get certified in this specialty area.

The Parish Nurses at Trinity are part of the Care and Concern ministry and offer monthly blood pressure screenings, provide educational resources to members of the congregation, and have organized a health fair in the past. We also work with the pastoral staff to offer a Blue Christmas service each year for those who are struggling during the holidays.

If you have an interest in our Parish Nurses ministry, please contact Jenn Grant, (309) 824-2900.
