CHALLENGE & CHOICE

Challenge and Choice is our sexual integrity class based on God's TRUTH offered for 8th and 9th grade youth and parents.  Our church believes strongly in helping equip families with information and tools to navigate this topic in an intentional and healthy manner. We believe there can be a lasting impact when families continue in these conversations holding up God’s TRUTH AND GRACE while living life as a child of God.

Here are some common questions that are asked about participating in CHALLENGE AND CHOICE:

+ Why is this class with parents and students together?

Challenge and Choice is purposefully written for parents and students to participate in together. We believe parents have the greatest influence on their children and these opportunities give information and discussion points that can be carried on beyond the sessions in order to make a greater impact. If possible, we would encourage both parents/guardians to participate with their child (during COVID we may be limited to one parent). It is so helpful to all be receiving the same information at the same time.

+ What if my kid is not into the guy/girl thing yet?

PERFECT!!! This is the time to talk about issues that they are not emotionally involved in yet. Why not help them have a vision for their sexuality before they are even interested in dating?!

+ What if my kid is just starting to get into the guy/girl thing?

SUPER!! Their ears will be perked up as they hear questions that resonate with them. They do want the answers!!!

+ What if my kid doesn't want to go?

Here is a secret....none of them WANT to go AT FIRST. I guarantee if you bring them to the first class they will want to finish it out. They will realize it is completely painless and actually a lot of fun!! They will get their questions answered.

+ What do we do while we are there?

In three of our sessions we watch parts of a video by an international speaker, Pam Stenzel. We have big group discussions, parent/youth chats, guy/girl only talks, guest speakers, and student testimonials. Time goes by fast and we usually can't get everything done, but we do our best. That is why everyone receives the powerpoints with lots of helpful information, take-home discussion questions, and a resource list.

+ Is it embarrassing or awkward?

It REALLY isn't. We are open and honest. There is no sugar-coating the topic but we approach it in such a way that is comfortable and keeps the interest of all!!!

+ What if we already talk about this stuff at home?

AWESOME!!! Our students need as many positive messages as they can receive. The church is your partner in reinforcing that exact same message on sexual purity!!

+ What if we can't make one of the sessions?

I would still encourage you to come. If you can't make two or more than maybe you should consider participating next year.

+ What has been the experience of the participants from previous years?

Both youth and parent are thankful for the opportunity to hear truth, wrestle with truth and have a vision for truth lived out personally. This class opens doors to some amazing discussions at home. It is a WORTHY investment for your family now and for the future!! If you would like to talk with someone who has gone before to get their insight please let me know and I will make the connection!
